NEWS: NEW TOUR ANNOUNCEMENT! – Romeo & Juliet and Twelfth Night 2017

Merely Theatre is thrilled to announce the 2017 touring productions of Romeo & Juliet and Twelfth Night

Merely Theatre’s first national tour was a runaway success. It saw the company take their shows all over England, Scotland and Northern Ireland. The company performed over forty shows in over twenty venues, including the Lincoln and Wakefield Theatre Royals, Theatre At The Mill Newtonabbey, and Kings Theatre Edinburgh. As the tour progressed, more new dates were added as word spread of the company’s vibrant and energetic approach to ‘Sweaty Shakespeare’.

The company are now proud to announce that 2017 will see the return of the first gender-blind classical repertory company for a second tour. This time, they will tackle two of Shakespeare’s most beloved works: the quintessential romantic tragedy Romeo & Juliet, and the hilarious and poignant Twelfth Night.

Romeo and Juliet promises to delivers both sweeping drama and intimate insights. Filled with emotion and action, this is love in all its raw and savage beauty. In Twelfth Night, unlikely lovers come crashing together and lost loved ones reunite in a play that is both riotous and tender. Performed by just 5 actors, the company will infuse these plays with their signature style of urgency, humour and clarity.

Artistic Director Scott Ellis said of the new productions, “We have introduced ourselves to audiences all around the country for the first time this year, and we have been overwhelmed by the positivity, excitement and generosity with which we’ve been received by audiences and theatres alike. We want to build on our relationship with those who saw and enjoyed the shows last year, and continue to make great, stripped-back, classical theatre accessible to audiences throughout Great Britain.”
