Merely Shakespeare

In 2014 Merely undertook its most ambitious project to date.

A different Shakespeare play performed for one night only, once a month, with a full cast, created in just eight rehearsals.

To achieve this, the company welcomed guest directors together with Artistic Director Scott Ellis to guide a wide range of talented actors, who from March to December mounted productions of A Comedy Of Errors, Romeo and Juliet, Macbeth (directed by Simon Grujich), As You Like It (directed by Sam Carrick), Twelfth Night, Henry IV Part I, Julius Caesar (directed by Neil Sheppeck) and The Taming Of The Shrew.

All performances took place in the round at The Cockpit Theatre, Marylebone, and played to multiple sold out houses, establishing Merely as one of the premier new Shakespeare companies in London.

This cemented their stripped-back style, audience focused energy and reputation for outstanding text work.
